IF YOU GIVE A MOM A MUFFIN

May 4, 2012 by val Leave a Comment

By Kathy Fictorie

If you give a mom a muffin, she’ll want a cup of coffee to go with it. She’ll pour herself some. Her three-year-old will spill the coffee. She’ll wipe it up. Wiping the floor, she will find dirty socks. She’ll remember she has to do laun…dry. When she puts the laundry in the washer, she’ll trip over boots and bump into the freezer. Bumping into the freezer will remind her that she has to plan supper. She will get out a pound of hamburger. She’ll look for her cookbook. (101 Things To Make With A Pound Of Hamburger.) The cookbook is sitting under a pile of mail. She will see the phone bill, which is due tomorrow. She will look for her checkbook. The checkbook is in her purse that is being dumped out by her two-year-old. She’ll smell something funny. She’ll change the two-year-old. While she is changing the two-year-old the phone will ring. Her five-year-old will answer it and hang up. She’ll remember that she wants to phone a friend to come for coffee. Thinking of coffee will remind her that she was going to have a cup. She will pour herself some. And chances are, if she has a cup of coffee, her kids will have eaten the muffin that went with it.”

Some of the reasons we are starting to use cloth diapers

May 2, 2012 by val Leave a Comment

Some of the reasons we are starting to use cloth diapers…

(Found on Real Diaper Association Website)

  • Conventional diapers are the third largest contributor to landfills.
  • 20 billion are thrown away each year. (That’s 50 million disposable diapers every day.)
  • Each disposable diaper has a petroleum-based plastic layer (don’t let the softness fool you!).
  • The plastic layer prevents these diapers from breaking down.
  • It’s estimated that it takes 500 years for one disposable diaper to biodegrade. Additionally, most of these diapers contain untreated human waste that can leach into the water table.

Mom to Mom: How to Use Cloth Diapers

April 22, 2012 by val Leave a Comment

This earth day I am asking all the moms out there who are experienced in using cloth diapers to help myself and other mothers wanting to make the switch to cloth diapers.

For those mom’s thinking about changing to cloth…Why switch?

  • Better for the environment
  • More Cost Effective in the long run.
  • Better for Baby (Cloth v Plastic, Non-Chemical v Chemical based Disposables)

How Experience Moms can Help.

Please provide advice, links, etc to help myself and other moms who want to begin using cloth diapers in the comment box below. I will be compiling these into more formal blog posts to share with Project Mommy readers.

Why Couponing May Not Be Worth Your Time

April 10, 2012 by val Leave a Comment

In a down economy it is easy to look for ways to make your dollar go farther, but consider this before you go gangbusters clipping coupons.

Your time is money
Is couponing really worth your time? Could you possibly work a few extra hours on a side job each week and make more?

Just spend less
Spend less money on frivolous things and you may find that ends meet just fine without having to go through the coupon process

Some more questions to ask…

Is couponing taking away from the time you should be spending with family, friends or just enjoying life?

Is couponing causing you to spend more, by buying products you really don’t need?

Is couponing taking away from activities which would help you improve your health (saving you a lot more in medical bills than coupons would).

Couponing is great, and a lot of “clippers” do so for charity, but for most of us, couponing, like everything else, is best in moderation.

So next time you are looking for a “deal” ask yourself these questions and remember that those 10 boxes of nasal strips you just scored… weren’t really “free”.

How to Create an Awesome Baby Announcement (and still have time to sleep)

March 20, 2012 by val Leave a Comment

With my first child I decided to make my own announcements, which while sounds fun, isn’t so much when you have to put them together at three in the morning between a bottle feeding and pumping more milk.

Lesson now learned- thanks to the help of Tiny Prints, this time I was able to create an awesome baby announcement, without all the time involved and these announcements are actually cheaper when I consider the cost of materials (especially ink!) that I used up creating the announcements for my son.

And with having two children, I didn’t want to be spending my few hours of sleep punching holes and threading ribbon through paper, or worse, missing out on my time with them. Being a mom the second time around, you really get an appreciation for how quickly they grow (and aren’t naps with sleeping baby on your chest, one of the best things in the world ? 😉

So here is the bottom line for you moms-to-be for the 1st, 2nd or 10th time around…
Use a service like Tiny Prints, so you can still announce your newest addition in style and more importantly…keep some time for yourself to catch up on some zzz’s or spend enjoying the newness of mommyhood.

See my (very awesome) announcement below and click here to check out all of the other fabulous options that they have available!
