November 1, 2017 by val Leave a Comment

Vintage Fall Floral Accessories #WhattoWearWednesday

For today’s #WhattoWearWednesday we have Vintage Fall Floral Accessories

As you may (or may not) know…one of my fun side projects is running ShinyObjectsSociety.com which is subscription box service for accessories.  In the evolution of all projects, I have now infused my love for all things vintage into the box and it will feature complete vintage inspired accessory collections (and not exclusively jewelry).  Each month will have it’s own theme and this month’s theme is Vintage Fall Florals.

While everyone things leaves for the fall we are taking it in another direction, inspiration by beautiful roses and florals in a fall color selection.

Here’s a sneak peak:

Fall Floral Accessories

This November Box is limited and will (I hope, at least) sell out fast…  I hope you love this inspiration as much as I do !

Please let me know your thoughts… what do you like, what don’t you like… What would you like to see in December’s box?

Cheers!

A Year of BarkBox: My BarkBox Subscription Review

August 31, 2017 by val Leave a Comment

Did you just get a new puppy or have a dog at home that could use a little more excitement in its life? Here is my BarkBox Subscription Review for our first Year of BarkBox and how I was able to save both time and money by signing up for this service.

barkbox review

First, what is Barkbox?

Each month BarkBox delivers 4-5 toys and treats in a specialty themed box.

Past themes include:

Invasion of the Space Squirrels

Barktober

Bark to School

SoCal Pups

Click here to see my BarkBox reviews… or keep reading to find out how to get your first BarkBox for Free.

They also work with you if your dog has allergies or is a super chewer.

Prior to BarkBox we were making multiple trips to the pet supplies store each month and it seemed like every time we were there it was another $20-$30 in dog toys and treats.  Trying to take a dog and 2 small kids to the store just isn’t fun.  I had it pictured as a fun time with our new pup… but that just was never the case.  However, when a BarkBox arrives in the mail, both the kids and the dogs got super excited and I didn’t have to yell at anyone in the process…#win.

How I stumbled upon BarkBox…

I had seen BarkBox advertised several places and finally decided to give it a try. Our puppy soon got very big and we needed the big dog box which usually had about 2-3 toys and 2-3 treats of some sort. Every month has a different theme which is also really fun.

Us hoomans get bored and so do our dogs… getting new toys each month kept Scout interested in his toys and not in our shoes) – Thankfully. Case in point..our neighbor got a puppy about 8 months ago… that puppy recently ate an entire cushion off her couch… the ENTIRE cushion… Keeping a puppy interested in new toys is much cheaper than a new couch any day.

Here’s how having the BarkBox saved me both time and money.

1. Less trips to the store… yea! More time to write blog posts 😉
2. A fixed costs for dog toys… this really helped keep the budget
3. Through the teething stage, after getting Barkbox, Scout rarely chewed on our belongings or furniture. Saving us money in damaged goods.
4. Toys on average cost less than I was spending at the big box pet stores.

So about how much does a box cost?
If you decide to go with a 12 month plan you will get the best deal. The 12 month plan is about $21 month, which is way less than I was spending on trips for toys and treats to the store.

Thinking about trying BarkBox? You can GET YOUR FIRST BOX FREE by clicking here.

If you decided to try it out and get your free box, Scout will get one too and be pawfully grateful.

Comment below with any questions if there is something I haven’t covered or let me know what you think about your BarkBox subscription when you get it!

The (Bark-tober) October BarkBox Review is Here!

November 3, 2016 by val Leave a Comment

October BarkBox Review

Nothing is scarier than running out of treats and chewy toys for our big guy.

Luckily this month’s Barkbox was spook-takular!

Here is our October Barkbox Review

Scouts favorite by far was the zombie squirrel.  Zombie squirrel met his demise quick enough that the cast of the Walking Dead would have been proud.

The other “stuffie” this month was the cutest cauldron… it was a great addition to this months theme and all stuffies from Barkbox have squeakers which is a huge incentive for Scout to stay busy with them until the squeaker is out… it also keeps him out of trouble for the week or two following when we get our BarkBox.

The treats this month include Chick or Treat which was great for the month’s theme but I do which they allowed for allergy preferences as Scout has a chicken allergy and we have to watch how much chicken he gets in his treats and buy non-chicken food.

The green bark gummies treats were a hit as was the bully stick that was included.  Overall, Scout was pretty excited about his trick or treat haul.

September BarkBox Review

September 21, 2016 by val Leave a Comment

What follows the dog days of summer?

Back to School for all the BarkBox pups of course!

This months package was amazingly cute and their graphics team went above and beyond.  The detailed thought and creativity of the Barkbox team amazes me almost as much as my dog likes everything else that is inside the box.

This month my “little” guy (who now weighs in at 72 pounds)  enjoyed a large milk carton chewie, learned his ABC’s from playing with his treats, but I am proud to say that his favorite thing was his new Dogs and their People chewie book.

It was definitely a page-turner for him as well as a page ripper.  Its made of pretty sturdy fabric so it has withstood the multiple chewing  reading sessions from him so far.

See below for more pics of this months box!

August Barkbox Review

September 18, 2016 by val Leave a Comment

It’s the August BarkBox Review- Pawsome!

This Barkbox was created with a beach theme in mind and the toys that we got were so cute that it was pretty sad when our #destroyersclub pup dug into his box of toys for the month. Here’e more about my August Barkbox Review…

Even if you aren’t a regular subscriber, one item I would really recommend is their fish taco toy, which takes ALOT and runs about $12-$16 if you want to purchase it directly from the Barkshop.  Funny enough its been about a month since we got our August box and while the Soc-Cal Surfer Hedgie is now just a stuffed animal carcass – my dog loves to still play with it – so the toys last awhile even though the “stuffy” part might come out quickly your #destroyerclub member will probably keep playing with it which makes the box pretty worthwhile.

I did a quick calculation and if purchased separately these items would have cost over $50 so paying just under $30 makes it a great deal and probably cheaper than one of our regular trips to the pet store.

What’s in a Barkbox?

July 14, 2016 by val Leave a Comment

April Barkbox

The April Barkbox has arrived!  It was appropriately baseball themed and our baseball loving dog thought it was a Home Run! We signed up through a promotion that gave us an extra toy for free each month so we get one extra toy than their regular box.

Here’s what was in this month’s box!

Bat and Glove Toy Set

IMG_5176They both have squeakers which our dog Scout goes crazy for.. the bat also had one of those tubes inside that is like the ones you see in kids toys sometime and when you turn it upside down it makes that funny slow pitch sound.

This Squeaky Hamburger itself retails on the pricey side… about $18, I believe.  While I believe that is overpriced, when it comes in the box its a great value.

Every piece of it attaches to the other pieces with velcro so your dog will have lots of fun tearing it apart AND watching his silly hooman put it back together.  He’ll probably think he’s doing you a favor since you would be bored and sad if he wasn’t there to keep you busy.

IMG_5179No Box is complete without some yummy treats.  Scout loves cheese, almost as much as his humans, so he really loved the Triple Cheese Baseball Treats that came in his box.   As well as the Bocce’s Bakery Sliders.  The Cheese Baseballs were the clear winner out of the two, especially since they were a soft treat rather than a crunchy one, which seems to be his overall preference.

And to top it off, it came with a dried duck treat stick, which was gone about 15 minutes after the box arrived.  If you decide to order these as a separate item, probably should get more than one.
