January 1, 2020 by val Leave a Comment

how to get a free baby welcome box

While supplies last, Amazon is giving away a Free Baby Welcome Box when you create a Baby Registry.

In order to get the box you must be a Prime Member when you create your registry.

[Post disclosure: contains Amazon affiliate links.]

If you are already a Prime member, click here to create a Baby Registry to get your free Baby Welcome Box!

There are still a bunch of perks to creating an Amazon Baby Registry without a Prime membership.

Here are a few…

  • Over 270,000 items, so if they don’t have what you are looking for…the baby probably doesn’t need it.
  • Manage your entire registry on the go with your mobile phone
  • 90 day returns
  • Universal Registry which allows you to add any item from any site to your registry using a feature in your registry account (this is only available on desktop – not mobile).

Try Prime to qualify for the box when you register and get 20% off diapers and of course Free Shipping on Prime Items…(not having to drag baby to the store = more snuggles.)

Please check out Amazon to get all the details on this program as terms may change, but I will do my best to keep this post updated 😉

Child Outgrown a Baby Carrier ? Try the Freeloader.

October 15, 2017 by val Leave a Comment

Has your child outgrown a baby carrier?

If you have a child between the ages of 3-6 there can be times when long or difficult walks are just too much for them.  However, by 3 most kids have outgrown a baby carrier.  So what do you do?

Recently we discover the Freeloader Child carrier which was designed to safetly transport kids who have outgown a baby carrier.  It is available in 3 colors and retails for around $300.  I was really impressed with how well it was made and I guess for a carrier in the price range you would expect nothing less.

It weighs about 5 pounds and is fairly comfortable on the back.

Has your child outgrown a baby carrier?

I put my 5 1/2 year old in it and while she isn’t a “big” kid, the impact of the weight and the way it distributed across my shoulders and hips was a bit awkward.  I plan to get out on another hike soon and see if we can make some adjustments to make the weight distribution more comfortable.  She also set a little awkwardly in the seat so we will continue to work to try to make her position better which should help.  They do provide instructions for the product to help you get the best fit, but I think it also takes a little adjustment on your own to eventually get it right.  If you are changing out kids which are different sizes the readjusting could get a little tiring.

Overall it’s a great concept and I have only seen a few other bulkier options on the market, so I think with a little practice this product could be a lifesaver for parents who are avid hikers and travelers.  Being able to share these adventures with your kids makes the memories even better and the Freeloader can help you make that possible.

When not in use, the Freeloader’s integrated aluminum seat folds up neatly to the size of a daypack. The Freeloader is a perfect fit for parents that want a lighter, more versatile carrier. The Freeloader features an easy-to-use, 5-point safety harness. The safety harness is specially designed to fasten securely and safely out-of-reach of your child.

How to Switch to Cloth Diapers for under $100

June 17, 2017 by val Leave a Comment

Here’s how to switch to cloth diapers for under $100.

Or just not sure about plunking out money for expensive cloth diapers?

Here’s how I made the switch to cloth diapers without spending a fortune.

 [Disclosure: Contains Affiliate Links.]

how to switch to cloth diapers

Update:  The website I had purchased them from seems to no longer be in business… so… I have updated this post with another resource to find the econobum starter kit and additional economic options I found online to help you get started into cloth diapering.

What I used for my LO’s awas the Econobum covers and insert pack which worked for 8-35 pounds so no having to rebuy diapers as they grow.  I thought they were great and were my go to verses an all-in-one which are bulkier to carry around IMO harder to clean.

These diapers are designed for 8-35 pounds, so they will last you beginning to potty training. I have used these on both my 2 month old daughter and my 3 year old son and they have worked great for both!  The earlier you use diapers the better as other moms will tell you the bigger babies and toddlers get the bigger the “mess”.  If they are a late potty trainer there may come a time where you decide to switch back to disposables.  And that’s okay.  But you can definitely save some money in the first year with cloth diapers as smaller baby dirty diapers are super easy to (clean most of the time) and so its a lot easier to cloth diaper.

Yes.  There is alot of washing in cloth diapers, but its really not that bad once you have a system in place.  And if you can, hang diapers out on the line and Mr. Sunshine will help keep them white.

If you plan on washing diapers every other day, order about 6-8 of these Econobum trial kits which comes with a cover and 3 prefolds.

These sell for about $12 each I used a company called Tender Cargo – great customer service and prompt shipping and now unfortunately it seems out of business, but if you Google search Econobum you will find other retailers who sell starter kits for about $50 and individual diapers.

This kit costs around $50 at most vendors which comes with:

3 Covers
12 Prefolds
1 Wetbags

While doing this post update I came across  several option that are even cheaper than what I found a few years ago.  Here are some of my picks that came close in price to the Econobum kits I originally purchased and should still let you cloth diaper for under $100.

ALVABABY Baby Cloth Diapers One Size Adjustable Washable Reusable for Baby Girls and Boys 6 Pack with 12 Inserts giving you more outer covers and the ability to go from one size to the next without buying new diapers.  At this time this set runs about $30 and people seem to like the product so I at that price I would feel confident in giving them a try, especially at that price point.  There are lots of colors to choose from… this is just one example.

4 Pack Adjustable Size Waterproof Washable Pocket Cloth Diapers with 4 Inserts and Wet Bag at around $20

Baby Cloth Pocket Diapers 7 Pack, 7 Bamboo Inserts, 1 Wet Bag by Nora’s Nursery

This one is a little more expensive option at $59, but these patterns are completely adorable…

This similar (but not as cute) set  of 7 Reusable Pocket Diaper All In One  is a little more affordable at $29.

I would recommend having at least 2 of the kits seen here and then washing every or every other day depending on how often you need to change diapers.  You may actually want to get a couple different kits, see what you like best and then purchase additional kits when you find your favorite.

For overnights and extra protection, or for not so messy diapers you can get some pre-folds or pocket inserts that will help keep baby dry.  That way you can keep the cover and just change the insert.

Hopefully this saves you the insanity of the research process …saving you both TIME and MONEY, all while saving the environment one diaper at a time!

Please let me know how you made the switch to cloth diapers in the comments below.

Crib Bumpers Suck! Use Wonder Bumpers!

July 1, 2013 by val 2 Comments

Crib bumpers suck.  And here’s why.

(AND… how I solved those problems with a product I found called Wonder Bumpers).

Wonder Bumpers are everything their names states them to be!

My problem started when I began to use cloth diapers with my daughter…she would often leak through leading to lots of sheet changes. This was extremely difficult because the crib bumper would get in the way.

The bumper I was using was really cute (stars design from Pottery Barn) but also has like a billion ties that held it onto the crib rails.

So logically I took it off the crib. Then in the middle of the night I would here “thuds” from my daughters head hitting the exposed rails.

Uh-oh…that’s not good either.

Crib Bumpers Suck. Here’s how I solved it by using Wonder Bumpers.

So when I stumbled upon Wonder Bumpers I knew they were the solution I was looking for, but didn’t know existed.

They mount onto each rail via zipper and you will need to count the number of rails that you will need to cover before you order. They do take a little time to install but once its done – you can still easily take the mattress out and change the sheets with no problem.

Best of all..

There is no worries about your little one hitting their head or concern about suffocation from a traditional bumper (although I still feel that this is sorta rare – it is certainly a fear for new parents).

Check out the great patterns and options at http://www.gomamagodesigns.com

They also have teething guards and sheets in the same soft minky fabric that their bumpers come in to match!

Baby girl loves her new crib makeover with wonder bumpers!

**I was provided a complimentary package of wonder bumpers to try for this review. Thoughts in this post are my own. ProjectMommy.com shares no liability in product defects.

Product Review: Milkies Milk Saver

November 9, 2012 by val Leave a Comment

Nursing a little one can be quite a challenge..some of us produce too little of milk and need to preserve every drop, others find themselves engorged and leaking like a broke faucet.

Or you may be somewhere right in the middle, but hate to pump! (Please note – this will not produce the same effect as pumping, but it will help you secure extra milk when you may not be able to pump.)

No matter what your situation may be, it can be helped by using the Milkies Milk Saver. It fits fairly discretely under your shirt and helps you reserve precious drops of milk while you are nursing (or help with overflow while baby may not be nursing regularly or you are just you have the “gift” of lactation).

Click here to check out the Milkies site and learn more about how this innovative product works!

*I was given a sample product to review in an honest post and was not monitarily compensated for completing this review post
